Frequently asked questions
Answers about licensing, download safety, sensor usage, and Windows compatibility.
01 Legal and licensing
Yes. HWiNFO64 and HWiNFO ARM64 are freeware for personal and non-commercial use. You may install them on home PCs, gaming rigs, and personal workstations without purchasing a license. See licensing details for the full terms.
Yes. Any use in a business, repair shop, IT department, or revenue-generating environment requires HWiNFO Pro. The non-Pro build includes a 14-day evaluation period for commercial testing. After that window, purchase a Pro license to remain compliant.
The free build allows commercial evaluation for 14 days. During this period you can test Pro features such as unlimited OSD items and remote monitoring in a business setting. When the evaluation expires, purchase Pro or switch to personal non-commercial use only.
No. You may not repackage, mirror, or redistribute HWiNFO installers without permission from REALiX s.r.o. Direct users to the download page on this site instead of sharing copied files.
Pro adds commercial licensing, unlimited OSD overlay items (free build limits five), remote sensor monitoring across networked PCs, and priority support. All core diagnostic and logging features remain available in the free non-commercial build.
02 Security and safety
Yes, when downloaded from a verified source and confirmed by digital signature. HWiNFO is developed by REALiX s.r.o. and has been maintained since 1995. Always verify the publisher under file Properties before running. Read the full trust and security dossier.
The hwinfo64a.sys kernel driver uses privileged hardware access that heuristic scanners sometimes classify as unwanted behavior. This is a known false positive, not an indication of malicious code. Verify the REALiX signature, then follow our antivirus recovery guide.
hwinfo64a.sys is a digitally signed kernel driver that reads low-level hardware registers, SMBus data, and ACPI tables unavailable to user-mode applications. Without it, many temperature, voltage, and fan sensors would show N/A. The driver loads temporarily and is removed when HWiNFO closes unless configured otherwise.
Right-click the installer, open Properties, and check the Digital Signatures tab for REALiX s.r.o. When SHA-256 checksums are published, compare them with PowerShell using Get-FileHash. Full verification steps are on the download page and trust page.
No. HWiNFO does not bundle adware, browser toolbars, or telemetry collectors. It does not transmit sensor data to remote servers unless you explicitly configure email alerts or remote monitoring. See the privacy section for details on local data handling.
03 Usage and sensors
Use Tdie or Tctl/Ttdie rather than an arbitrary core temperature row. AMD reports a single representative junction temperature designed for thermal limit monitoring. Compare against your motherboard BIOS readings and reset min/max before each stress test for clean data.
Generally yes, but running multiple tools that poll the same SMBus or EC registers can cause conflicts, missing readings, or red X sensors. Close competing utilities or disable their sensor access. See the multiple monitoring software guide for resolution steps.
Open the Sensors window, click the disk icon or use Logging Start from the menu. Choose CSV, HTML, JSON, or YAML format (JSON and YAML require HWiNFO64 or ARM64). Set a polling interval and file path. Timestamped logs help correlate thermal events with crashes or throttling.
The installer registers the kernel driver, creates Start Menu shortcuts, and adds uninstall entries. The portable ZIP contains 32-bit, 64-bit, and ARM64 executables with no registry changes, ideal for USB drives and bench testing. Both packages are described on the download page.
N/A means the hardware or driver does not expose that reading. A red X indicates a polling conflict, often resolved by pressing Ins to restore values or closing competing monitor software. If all sensors show N/A, the kernel driver may not have loaded. See troubleshooting guides.
04 Compatibility
Yes. Version 8.52 fully supports Windows 11 on x64 and ARM64. Some security features such as Memory Integrity or Stack Protection can block individual sensors until you update to the latest build or adjust security settings. See the compatibility table in the sidebar and our Windows 11 guides.
Yes. HWiNFO ARM64 is a native build for Snapdragon and other ARM64 Windows devices. It supports the same sensor logging formats (CSV, HTML, JSON, YAML) as HWiNFO64. Use the ARM64 executable from the portable archive or the dedicated ARM64 installer.
Windows Memory Integrity (Core Isolation) can prevent the kernel driver from accessing certain EC and Super I/O registers. Fan speed and some motherboard sensors may show N/A while Memory Integrity is enabled. Update to the latest HWiNFO build first, then see the Memory Integrity guide.
Windows 7 64-bit or later, 256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended for logging), 50 MB disk space, and administrator rights for driver installation. Display resolution of 1024 x 768 minimum. Network is optional and only needed for email alerts.
Yes, 64-bit Windows 7 is supported. Sensor coverage on older chipsets may be more limited than on current platforms because fewer embedded controllers expose data through standard interfaces. Keep HWiNFO updated for the best legacy hardware support.
